Cad Cam Technology

We now have the capability to restore a tooth with a large filling or cavity in a single appointment. Often this can be accomplished without having to place a full crown on the tooth. Cad Cam is the digital scan, design, and fabrication of the restoration – No temporaries, no second seating appointment; the ceramic restoration is bonded in at the same appointment.

Call today for information on replacing those dark metal fillings with Cad Cam ceramics.

Large Fillings

A Large filling replaces 50% of the tooth structure.

There are other factors that are also evaluated, but a rule of thumb is 50% = onlay or 3/4 crown.

The onlay or 3/4 crown is made of ceramic material that is very similar to tooth enamel.

Our goal

Our goal is a healthy, functional mouth that will also aid in the health of the rest of the body.

The next few blogs will be a series of how we determine the best restoration for the tooth.

Amalgam or cavity? Now what?!

When we remove amalgam fillings from teeth, there are many factors to consider in restoring the tooth back to optimum health.

Size of the cavity:

Small, with lots of good tooth structure surrounding it-a good restoration for this type of cavity would be a composite (non-metallic) tooth-colored filling. The following pictures are an example of a tooth that is easily restored from an amalgam filling to a composite (non-metallic) filling, from start to the final composite filling:

The next blogs will focus on teeth with larger amalgam fillings and the steps we take to restore teeth in this condition to a healthier place.

The photo you see is my assistant, patient and myself removing an amalgam filling. Mercury has a low boiling point and can give off vapors if ground out of the tooth. I believe the protocal we use greatly reduces the risk of creating toxic gases.

Our purpose

My office is very committed to helping patients who may be frustrated and feeling overlooked, not listened to or lost. I have been in general dentistry for 32 years. I do esthetic dentistry, restorative (mercury-free fillings, crowns, etc.), orthodontic (Invisalign) and periodontal (gum disease) treatments. I have an excellent, well-trained, caring staff. We utilize the latest in technology, while focusing on your safety and comfort. I follow a specific protocol for safe amalgam removal from teeth; treating environmental and metal toxic patients for over ten years. In that time, I have seen more and more patients searching for a dental office to address their concerns. The purpose of this blog will be to educate and relate to people. I will discuss new procedures as well as experiences our patients have.
